Dr Mukherjee, a senior research scientist and head of the Translational Tissue Engineering Research Group, will undertake a six-month project with Moderna, where she will gain critical business acumen in the biotechnology sector as it expands its R&D presence in Australia.

Fostering innovation and advancing scientific discovery

With the support of the Victorian government Moderna plans to establish a Regional Research Centre for Respiratory Medicine & Tropical Disease in Melbourne, focusing on fostering innovation and advancing mRNA scientific discovery in Australia and beyond.

Dr Mukherjee’s REDI fellowship will complement that process, and she is thrilled at the prospect.

She will be involved in the strategy, tactics and logistics of the Centre’s set up, working closely with the Centre Director to map the different activities and develop operating frameworks.

REDI Fellowship – bridging the gap

“The program’s focus on industry experiences, skills development and collaboration aligns perfectly with my aspirations, enabling me to effectively bridge the gap between academia and industry,” she said.

Dr Mukherjee, who specialises in developing new treatments for pelvic floor disorders such as pelvic organ prolapse (POP), believes the REDI fellowship will provide experience to facilitate the commercialisation of her women’s health research.

“Through the REDI fellowship, I will gain exposure to industry best practices, business development strategies and commercialisation frameworks specific to the MedTech sector,” she said.

“Ultimately, the REDI fellowship will enhance my ability to translate my research findings into tangible solutions for women’s health, fostering innovation and improving patient outcomes.”

The REDI fellowship is an initiative of the MedTech and Pharma Growth Centre, MTPConnect.
