Mr Nikshay Karthigan is a PhD student in the Cardiovascular Endocrinology laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and also a member of the Endocrine Hypertension Research Group at Hudson Institute.
In 2018, under the supervision of Associate Professor Morag Young and Dr Jun Yang, he completed his Honours project which evaluated blood-based biomarkers of primary aldosteronism (PA), a common disease caused by aldosterone excess which is highly responsive to mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) treatment. In his current PhD project, he seeks to identify biomarkers that will accurately and reliably predict the responsiveness to MRA treatment in patients with cardiovascular disease.
