Chairman of Hudson Institute of Medical Research Board, Dr Bob Edgar is delighted to announce the appointment of The Hon. Jill Hennessy as a new non-Executive Director of the Board of the Institute.
Jill is a highly distinguished former Victorian Attorney-General and Minister for Health and served in the Victorian Legislative Assembly between 2010 and 2022.
Hon. Jill Hennessy signature achievements
Among her signature political achievements were the passing of Victoria’s Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation and major reforms to Victoria’s occupational health and safety laws.
Jill holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University and a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne. She was recently appointed as a Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow at Monash University and also sits on the Board of the disability service provider Scope (Australia).
Before entering parliament, Jill practised as a solicitor and was a senior advisor to former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks.
Hudson Institute CEO and Director, Professor Elizabeth Hartland welcomed her appointment to Hudson Institute’s board: “Jill brings a wealth of experience and wide-ranging acumen to the Institute’s Board, and we are honoured to have her guidance and involvement.”
“She replaces Nigel Garrard who I would like to thank for his time and tremendous contribution to the Institute since joining the Board in 2016.
“Although we will miss Nigel, we are looking forward to having Jill’s contribution, especially as we continue planning for the creation of a National Centre for Inflammation Research at Hudson Institute, to capitalise on our world-leading work in this area.” Prof Hartland said.
