Around 200 aspiring honours, PhD and medicine students have shown a keen interest in Hudson Institute’s research during its 2015 Student Open Day.
Representatives from Hudson Institute’s research centres engaged with prospective students on Wednesday, 5 August.
Hudson Institute Director, Professor Bryan Williams says the large turnout shows an enthusiasm by prospective students to be a part of the Institute’s rich culture of translational research.
“The research that we undertake at Hudson Institute makes us the ‘engine room’ for Monash Health,” Professor Williams said.
“I encourage ambitious young scientists to make contact with our researchers, and find a project they are passionate about.”
Professor Williams says students are offered a unique collaborative environment, where they can see the direct impact of their research within the community.
The Institute offers around 170 student projects across six key areas: Cancer; Genetic Diseases; Immunity, Inflammation and Infectious Diseases; Reproductive Health; Fetal, Neonatal, Children’s and Women’s Health.
The opening of the $84 million Monash Health Translational Research Precinct in October 2015 will strengthen the Institute’s links with its partners Monash Health and Monash University.
Students will have access to state-of-the-art research platforms and the knowledge of both researchers and clinicians, who will work side-by-side.
Hudson Institute’s student open day is the first since the merged MIMR-PHI (Monash Institute of Medical Research and Prince Henry’s Institute) rebranded to become Hudson Institute.
