Interaction between endometrial mesenchymal stem cells and macrophages in immune intact and immune compromised animals

Lead researcher

Dr Saeedeh Darzi

Main finding

1. endometrial mesenchymal stem cells change the macrophage phenotype from M1( Inflammatory) to M2 (anti-inflammatory)
2. endometrial mesenchymal stem cells reduce the inflammatory cytokine secretion in macrophages (less inflammation)
3. endometrial mesenchymal stem cells up-regulate the M2 macrophages markers ( improve healing and regeneration)

Journal and article title

Most surprising

Differences in the immune status in the two animals directly affect the survival of eMSC which leads to
differences in the short-term and long-term macrophage responses to implanted meshes

Future implications

our research will benefit women who are suffering from the complications associated with vaginal mesh surgery and benefit their families, employers and healthcare system.
